When I first pulled on my cowboy boots and strutted out on to the UK music scene, I swear I was almost a figure of ridicule for my passionate love of country music.
For me, it has always been about the honesty of the song, and there is a beautiful authenticity that all of those great country songs are steeped in.
Now, fast forward a few years, and take a look at where we are now. This is an incredible week for UK Country music!
If you haven't already heard we have a UK Country duo at No1 on the charts, 4 fantastic new country songs were released yesterday by Decca Records sung by a raft of homegrown country talent and written by UK songwriter Ben Earle, the legend that is Bob Harris is holding his inaugural Under The Apple Tree Festival in London today, not to mention all of the independent artists that also have brand new music out or coming out soon - Including my good self obviously! ;-)
Now none of this is chance, and I know that however 'gilded' it all may look, there really are so many hours, in fact years and years of hard, hard work which every single one these artists, writers and broadcasters have put into crafting this incredible moment for UK artists.
But what I believe has really set this scene on fire is the utter enthusiasm and willingness of the UK Country Music Fans to give us all a chance to be heard alongside our American counterparts. It is the radio listeners who keep tuning in, the home town gig audiences who turn up to support their local artists, the fans who have bought, shared, enthused and spread such positive words about UK Country that people across the world are willing to lend us an ear and listen to our music! The reviewers, so many of whom are either artists or fans themselves who use every minute of their precious spare time listening to our new music and writing up articles, blogs and interviews, and to the friends who take that moment to say 'hey, heard your new song mate, sounds good, keep at it'. It is all of you who have made this happen for us -
What a beautiful example of team work guys!
Enjoy it y'all!
